We started on this program (I won't even call it a diet) in mid-November. So far, I've lost 12 lbs while eating some of the best food I've ever eaten outside of high end restaurants. The excerpt below from the Dr. Gourmet site is absolutely true. Yesterday, my husband and I were watching TV and a commercial came on for one restaurant or another and my husband blurted out...

"There's too much meat on that sandwich!" Proof that even a 'big eater' can adjust to portion control.

"Proof that You Can Eat Less, Eat Fewer Calories, and Still Be Satisfied

There are two ways to eat fewer calories. One is to eat smaller
portions and the other to reduce the amount of calories in a particular
dish. With Dr. Gourmet recipes I work at both of these approaches,
enhancing the taste and satisfaction of a recipe by choosing lower
calorie ingredients that maximize flavor."

Re: More bad news for supplements!

If the contention is that the system is bad because Romero was made
to pay for .... cleared him to take the supplement. I would like to try the Mediterranean diet but have the following concerns: I am subject to kidney stones and should avoid oxalate type foods eg: Green vegs, dark green leafy lettuce, peanuts, wheat gluten/bran, nuts, beans, beets, sweet potatoes, squash, strawberries, chocolate, tea, etc. Also I get GERD when eating spicy meals. Any suggestions what diet I should concentrate on if not the Mediterranean?
Thank You
Frank Wilhlemy

Re: ‘Non-Celiac Gluten Intolerance’: Does it Exist?

Maybe despite the wide belief that people free of celiac disease can be gluten intolerant or wheat intolerant, non-celiac gluten intolerance does indeed exist even though the mechanisms are still unknown. It's one of my red flags I need to start recording food again.

After losing 200 pounds and looking at this long-term, I found found most valuable was a cooking technique -- when you look at a dish, analyze what you like about it.

Looking at most of the "100 calorie" packs from a culinary perspective, they mostly provide texture and some sweetness. It's simple to provide textural perks and add sweetness to foods that require minimum prep time (yogurt, cottage cheese, oatmeal, etc.) that provide crunch and sweetness without mindelss grazing.

While promising research is being reported & conducted with each compound (do a search via NIH database PUBMED), the claims being made by marketers of Juvenon (& competitors selling similar ALC/ALA combinations) are not supported by the science or the reputable studies to date (mostly animal studies). There are a few conditions for which it would be reasonable to consider trying Juvenon, I think (i.e., peripheral neuropathy, & certain rare mitochondrial disorders), but the science doesn't come anywhere near supporting the hype. They both seem relatively safe, though. Just don't be too trusting of claims from companies selling Juvenon (even if CEO has MD fr. Harvard).

Re: Are there salt substitutes that are safe for those with diabetes and high blood pressure?

Grey organic salt is wonderful.
